Gokyo Lake Trek

When you are near the capital and the weather is clear, also you have a window seat. Then you will also get to see the beautiful valley with a glimpse of some mountain ranges as well. Moreover, once you enter the valley, you will also notice a lot of cultural and traditional heritages. 

As soon as you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, our representatives will await you to escort you to the hotel. Once you reach the hotel, freshen up. Then we will have a session regarding the trek.

Kathmandu also known as the City of Temples is renowned for its religious temples, monasteries, and stupas. These historical and religious monuments hold great significance for diverse communities in the valley.

Having your breakfast early in the morning, today you will explore Kathmandu Valley. One cannot explore every bit of the valley within a day. However, you can visit a few of the places in the meantime.

In addition, you will also be starting to prepare for your trek. You have to make sure that you have the proper gear and every other required thing for this expedition. If you do have any confusion, feel free to reach out to us at any given moment.

Now, the journey towards the adventurous Gokyo Lake starts with a flight to Lukla (2804 meters) from the capital. The flight to Tenzing and Hillary Airport itself is somewhat of an adventure. The airport is surrounded by tall mountains and is situated at the face of the mountain with a short runway.

On the way to Lukla, you will get to see scenic views of the valleys, mountain ranges, and Mt. Everest (8848 meters). Upon arrival at the airport, you will be welcomed by our representatives.

The actual trek begins from this point. Now, we will be heading towards Phakding (2610 meters), a small village located in the Khumbu region. This will take us approximately 3 hours to reach. Along the trail, we will be crossing through two suspension bridges ultimately leading to Thado Koshi.

Furthermore, from there on you will be passing through Tibetan Buddhist monuments like monasteries, mani walls, and prayer flags leading to Phakding village. Surrounded by the lush hills, you will find some tea shops and lodges run by the sherpa community.To end the day we, will be accommodating in this village and enjoying the scenic view of this heavenly place.

The next morning, after having breakfast while enjoying the vivid scenic view from the village, we will be heading towards Namche Bazaar (3441 meters). The trail leading to Namche Bazaar is not that challenging. However, you will be making some unforgettable moments along the trail.

During the initial trek of this expedition, you will meet local sherpas and other trekkers on the path. In addition, you will encounter multiple huts and shops where you will find handmade items.

Moving further along the trail, we will be crossing multiple suspension bridges, and walking alongside the Dudh Koshi River and different monuments. Soon, we will be reaching a small village called Monjo (2835 meters). This is the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park. After verifying our permits, we now enter the national park.

After crossing a bridge trekking uphill path and through a rhododendron forest, you will finally reach Namche Bazar. This village is the hub for trekkers to accommodate for the night and move on to their respective paths. We will also be staying here for a night.

Within just 2 days, we have already reached an altitude of 3441 meters and will get higher further. Therefore, today we will let our body acclimatize to adapt to high altitude. It is one of the important parts of the Gokyo Lake Trek. We need to make sure that our body adapts to the higher altitude so that we don't get any altitude sickness along the trail.

We will be exploring nearby surroundings in Namche Bazaar. As of now, we will be heading towards Everest View Hotel (3880 meters). This place has one of the best views of Mt. Everest along with the Khumbu peaks. After enjoying some time, we will now descend.

There are many other places that we can visit for the day. Like Khumjung Village (3790 meters) to see Yeti Scalp and Syangboche Village (3800 meters) to enjoy scenic views of different mountain ranges.

We will then return to Namche Bazaar to stay for one more night.

After acclimatizing for a day, we will again resume our expedition today heading towards Dole (4200 meters). As the trek begins, we begin to leave Namche and traverse uphills towards Dudh Koshi Valley. Along the trail, we will cross stupas and get a glimpse of multiple snow-capped mountains.

Now, descending through the pine and rhododendron forest, the trail divides. Taking a left turn from here is the way toward Gokyo Lake. Moving further down the trail we will reach Mong Village. The panoramic views that you get of the mountain range from this village are indeed something magical.

After a few hours of trekking, you will finally reach to Dole (4200 meters). The trail is comparatively quite easy from the Mong Village. Hence, you will enjoy the scenic route from there passing across some waterfalls and rhododendron.For the night you will be accommodating here.

Today we won't be climbing much of an altitude. Therefore, with just 4 to 5 hours of trek, you will be reaching Machharmo which lies at an altitude of 4470 meters.

Early in the morning, after having breakfast, we will get ready to head towards Machharmo. The path is comparatively uphill which will slightly get steeper. After trekking for a couple of hours leaving Dole, we will see Dudh Koshi River lying far below. This view is somewhat beautiful to watch.

From there, the uphill will gently get steeper. Moving further, we will start seeing tiny settlements of Machharmo. Enjoying the view of Thamserku, we will stay here for the rest of the night.

From Maccharmo, our journey continues towards Gokyo Valley after having breakfast in the morning. This valley is located at an altitude of 4800 meters above sea level and you can reach here within three hours of walk from Machharmo. However, the time taken also depends on the pace of the trekkers. Nevertheless, we do not recommend trekkers to hassle with the pace. Maintain a calm and steady pace to keep yourself healthy and ongoing with the trek. Once you reach the Gokyo Valley, you will be astonished by the views of amazingly settled Sherpa and Tibet-influenced villages and lifestyles. Moreover, the exceptional views of sky-touching mountains, valleys, and beautifully stone-made houses make it feel like you are in heaven. 

As the whole journey is to visit the Gokyo Valley, we will stay for a day in Gokyo itself. On this day, the trekkers will enjoy exploring the valley and interacting with the locals of that area. Moreover, you can also immerse in the scenic landscapes, green valleys, and pristine water of the Gokyo Lakes on that day. 

By the evening, trekkers will return to the hotel and have their dinner before sleeping.

Today is the best part of the entire Gokyo Lakes Trek as we go for a day hike to Gokyo Ri. Gokyo Ri is the highest point of the entire Gokyo Lakes Trekking region, located at an altitude of 5330 meters above sea level. As this is a sunrise-view hike, we begin our walk early in the morning. Therefore, the Snow View Trek team suggests the trekkers be ready with the headlamps.

As you reach Gokyo Ri and watch the sunrise view, you will just be astonished by one of the greatest views ever in your life. However, be cautious about the pace and health because, at such a high altitude, you might suffer from altitude sickness. 

After a few hours spent at Gokyo and enjoying the sunrise view, we descend back to Gokyo and again enjoy another day here. Overnight stay and dinner for this day of Gokyo Lakes Trek will be arranged by Alpine Wonder Treks in Gokyo Valley. 

Now, we are on the descending journey of the Gokyo Lakes Trek. So, on the eleventh day, we descend from Gokyo to Namche Bazaar. As it is a descending journey, it does not take much for us to reach Namche Bazaar. Within 5 to 6 hours of walking in a peaceful and serene part of the Gokyo Lakes Trek route, we reach our destination for the day. This will be another opportunity for the trekkers to spend a day in the magical land of the Himalayas.

Overnight stay and dinner will be arranged by Alpine Wonder Treks in Namche Bazaar.

After spending a night in a comfortable hotel in Namche Bazaar, it's time for us to descend to Lukla on the twelfth day. We begin the journey after having a fulfilling breakfast in Namche. After that, we need to walk for about 6 to 7 hours to reach Lukla from Namche Bazaar. However, we will also stop in the middle to have lunch.

For dinner,Alpine Wonder Trekswith arrange a hotel or lodge in Lukla but before that, you will have a couple of hours to explore and interact with the locals in Lukla one more time.

Finally, it is time to wave goodbye to the Khumbu region as today, the trekkers will return to Kathmandu via a morning flight. Breakfast will be served in the hotel itself and then your guides will take you to the Airport. From there, trekkers will get on the flight and return to Kathmandu. 

As you land at the Tribhuwan International Airport, Alpine Wonder Treks’s representatives will pick you up in a private vehicle and transfer you to the hotel in Kathmandu. Moreover, you can enjoy a final meeting with our team at the farewell dinner arranged by Alpine Wonder Treks. 

As you wake up in the morning and have your breakfast, our representatives will pick you up from the hotel and transfer you to the International Airport. They will accompany you until the entrance and from there you will board on the flight and return to your home country. This officially ends the Gokyo Lakes Trek journey.
