Jiri-Everest Base Camp Trek

Our representatives will welcome and escort you to the hotel once you arrive at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu (1,345 meters).

After a long hour of flight, you should have felt a bit tired. So today, you will rest at the hotel and further information regarding this trek will be discussed from tomorrow onwards.

The next morning, you will hear some bells and prayers humming from your hotel. These are the morning routine of most of the household in Nepal. Waking up at this melodious tune you will then have your breakfast.

Today we visit and explore as much as places in Kathmandu. It can be sacred religious places like Pashupatinath Temple, and Bouddha Stupa to historical places like Basantapur Durbar Square and many others.

Moreover, we also will have a short talk regarding this expedition and prepare for the journey. You will be accommodated in the same hotel for the night. Get a good night's sleep because a long journey awaits us from tomorrow on.

Today the journey starts by heading towards Jiri (2,370 meters) also known as the "Gateway to Mount Everest".

We take a bus from the capital to Jiri, which takes about 8 to 9 hours. Therefore, we will catch a bus early in the morning after having breakfast.

We reach Jiri by driving along the Araniko Highway, which has windy roads, and crossing the Sunkoshi River and Tama Koshi River. In addition, along the journey, we will see multiple lush hills some religious sites, and some commutes.

Jiri is a small town located deep in the valley, giving us a scenic view of the snow-capped mountains and the undulating hills. It is also referred to as Switzerland of Nepal due to its environment, landscape, and unique architecture of the buildings.

After long hours of driving, and looking at the best view of Jiri, we end our day by accommodating her for the night.

The morning view from Jiri is quite magical. There are some trees near the surroundings, a bit far away are the lush hills surrounding the town, and finally further the snow-capped mountains of orange color in the morning.

With this view, we have breakfast and prepare to head towards Bhandar(2,190 meters). The trek begins today with an easy trail that can be covered in 6 hours. The initial trail of the trek includes passing through the serene farm fields and villages until we reach Deurali.

Moving further, we descend through the beautiful forest and reach Bhandar. Along the way, prayer flags and Mani walls will give us a cultural aspect of the region.

Due to a devasting earthquake in 2015, we will see a few tea shops and some homes broken down. However, the locals have built new tea shops and lodges, where we will be accommodating for the night.

After having breakfast we head towards Sete (2,575 meters). As we leave Bhandar, looking at the scenic views of the lush hill in the surroundings and passing through some small settlements, we reach the Likhu River.

Furthermore, crossing the river and then gradually ascending and crossing some suspension bridges, we reach Kinja Village. It is a small settlement in the Newar and Magar community situated in the narrow valley where Likhu meets the Kinja River.

Moving further with a marvelous view of the landscapes, flowing streams, and rhododendron forest, the path gradually becomes steeper with an uphill section. Then a gradual descent will now reach us to Sete. Most of the locals here are of the Sherpa community.

Sitting on the side of the hill at such an altitude, the village offers a scenic view of the surrounding lush hills. We will be accommodating for the night here.

Continuing the trail where we left off yesterday, we will trek along Lamjura Pass (3,530 meters) to reach Junbesi (2,680 meters). Compared to the previous day, the trail is quite challenging leading to Junbesi.

Having our breakfast in the morning, we start our trek. Winding through peaceful settlements, past still ponds and mani walls, the trail now begins its ascent. With a gradual climb, we then reach Lamjura Pass, one of the highest points between Namche Bazar and Jiri.

If the sky is not foggy, we will get a scenic view of the beautiful landscapes and lush hills. After a few moments, we descend through the rhododendron forest, and terrace fields and finally reach Junbesi.

Junbesi is a Sherpa Village situated at lower Solukhumbu, which offers a unique culture and tradition with an astonishingly beautiful landscape. We will be accommodating here for the night.

After six days into the Jiri-Everest Base Camp Trek, today we have a chance to explore the Sherpa Community in Junbesi. Yesterday on our way to this village, we saw the beautiful landscapes, forests, and terrace fields. Today we will visit nearby places and enjoy the scenic view and unique hospitality of the Shepra community.

We can go on a short day hike to Idingma, where we get a panoramic view of the surroundings. In addition, we can also visit Junbesi Monastery, which is one of the oldest monasteries in the Solukhumbu Region.

Experiencing the vibrant culture of the locals, and exploring the nearby places, we go back to our hotel and rest for the night.

After an acclimatization at Junbesi, once again we continue our expedition and head towards Nunthala (2,330 meters). After having our breakfast, we start our trekking.

Descending from Junbesi through the forest, we reach the Junbesi River. Crossing the river along the wooden bridge, we encounter a junction from which we follow the trail to Khumbu. Moving along the trail, with an uphill section, we reach the viewpoint of Everest.

Furthermore, walking through the forest, and exploring different flora and faunas, we then ascend to Taksindu. The trail continues to reach Nunthala after crossing a bridge and climbing uphill. Along the way, we will also visit the local Cheese factory and taste the variety of local goods. For the night we will accommodate in Nunthala.

After having breakfast, we descend from Nunthala until we reach Dudh Koshi River. After crossing the bridge, walk past the terrace field and to a small settlement in Rai village named Jubling. Moving further, after climbing a small hill we reach the town of Kari Khola.

Now the trail gets a bit steeper, as we complete the uphill section we reach Buspa Danda (2,300 meters). Here we will explore Buddhist monasteries and the nearby places and accommodate in one of the tea shops for the night.

All along the way, we get to experience different cultures, view changing landscapes, and pass through small settlements.

Today, the trail is quite adventurous and challenging. After having breakfast we continue to follow the same trail until we cross a bridge at Kharte. The path now starts to ascend slowly till we reach Kari La. The paths are slippery with gradual ascend, so we must be more cautious.

From here we get scenic views of Cho-Oyu (8201 meters), Numbu (6960 meters), Thamserku (6629 meters), and Gyangchung Kang (7922 meters).

Further down the trail, we pass through small streams along with pine and rhododendron forests to finally reach our destination Surke (2,290 meters). It is a small town on the bottom of the hill near the riverbank. The views of huge lush hills from the bottom are quite fascinating.

We will be accommodating here for the night.

Waking up and listening to the river stream, we have breakfast and then prepare to head towards Phakding (2,610 meters).

Walking along the Dudh Koshi River for a few moments, the uphill section starts which leads us to Chhiplung (2,700 meters). Along the way, we will pass through Mushe (2650m), a small settlement of the Sherpa Community. The trail is now almost flat with a slight downhill and then uphill leading us to Phakding.

Surrounded by snow-capped mountains, lush hills, and terrace fields, this village will give us a picturesque view along with its ancient culture. The mani walls, small stupas, and monasteries will help us learn more about the culture of the locals in this region.

With a wide variety of tea shops and lodges, we will accommodate one of them for the night.

Today we will be heading towards Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters) also known as Sherpa Capital. With a morning breakfast, we start our journey to the Sherpa capital.

Walking along the Dudh Koshi River, we ascend to Chomoa, an amazing place to explore the agricultural aspect and the lifestyle of locals in this region. Moving further, crossing suspension bridges and ascending for a few moments we reach Monjo. Along the way, we get the best view of Mt. Thamserku (6,608 meters).

After a few moments, we now reach to entry point of Sagarmatha National Park. Here, the officer will check and verify our passes for trekking. Once everything is verified, we walk through the forest until we reach one of the highest suspension bridges. Crossing the bridge and ascending for a while, we reach our destination Namche Bazaar.

Strolling for a few moments, we stay in one of the lodges for the night.

Yet another acclimatization day in our Jiri-Everest Base Camp Trek. We are already at an altitude of 3,440 meters. Today we will have a short day hike to multiple viewpoints and return to our hotel. We do this to ensure that our body adapts to higher altitudes and won't have any issues in the upcoming days.

Looking at sunrise, we have our breakfast and head towards exploring Namche. There are many places we can visit, like to see Yeti Scalp, we head towards Khumjung Village (3790 meters) and Syangboche Village (3800 meters) to enjoy scenic views of different mountain ranges.

In addition, Everest View Hotel (3880 meters) is one of the most popular viewpoints, which offers the best views of Khumbu Peaks and Mt. Everest. Once we visit these places we return to our hotel and rest for the night.

We continue our expedition on the Jiri-Everest Base Camp Trek and head towards Tengboche (3,860 meters).

After we have breakfast, we will be leaving Namche and walking along the river bank. A few moments into the trek, we walk across rhododendron, oak, and birch forest. Crossing over a decorated suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, the path starts to ascend slowly.

Soon enough we reach a village called Phungi Thanga. Up to this point, a glimpse of multiple mountain ranges like Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Ama Dablam, and Thamserku will be seen. In addition, the wildlife of the Himalayas like musk deer and Himalayan Thar will astonish you.

Furthermore, after multiple ups and downs and crossing a suspension bridge, we reach Tengboche. We can explore the Tengboche Monastery and accommodate in one of the lodges for the night.

Surrounded by the mountain peaks, the Tengboche Monastery lies almost in the center giving us a scenic view in the morning. After having breakfast with this view, we prepare to head towards Dingboche (4,358 meters).

The path starts with an easy uphill section. As we climb slowly, the landscape is now barren with fewer trees. The trail will also get a bit harder because of the rugged path and windy weather.

Walking through the rhododendron forest and birch woods, we descend to the riverbank. Crossing the bridge over Imja Khola, the path becomes steeper until we reach Pangboche (3,980 meters).

Walking parallel to the river on the slope of the mountain and crossing through multiple small settlements, we reach Dingboche. We will accommodate you in one of the lodges for the night.

For the third time in our Jiri-Everest Base Camp Trek, we acclimatize at Dingboche to make sure our body adapts to low oxygen levels at this altitude. Therefore, we will have a short day hike and return to our hotel after reaching a certain altitude or a viewpoint.

The two Buddha Stupas and the snow-capped mountains will give us a serene view to remember for our lifetime. With this, we also have our breakfast and prepare for a hike. Within a few moments on the hike, we reach a stupa. From here the path splits into two sections, one leading to Nangkartshang Peak (5,121 meters) and another leading to Lobuche.

Nangkartshang Peak has multiple names like Nagarjuna Peak, Nangkar Tshang, Nagarjoong, etc. Therefore, don't get confused if you hear any of these names, they are the same.

Continuing the path to the peak, the path will get steeper gently. Moreover, the path is on the mountain ridge. So, it can be a bit challenging for us. However, the views of the Alpine Lakes and Pheriche Valley will make this hardship worth it.

We then descend back to our hotel after spending some quality time up there. During the descent, we will get a panoramic view of the Dingboche Valley.

One of the key highlights of Jiri-Everest Base Camp Trek is the panoramic view from the Kalapathar (5,550 meters). It is by far one of the best views that we will see in the entire expedition. So get ready to manifest this serene beauty of the Himalayas.

We start our journey early in the morning, as the views are majestic during the sunrise period from Kalapathar. The trail is comparatively quite easy and takes about 2 hours to reach. Once we reach there, we just admire the beauty of the Himalayas and spend some moments in this peaceful environment.

After a while, we return to Gorakshep and have some food, and descend towards Pheriche (4,200 meters), where we will be accommodating for the night.

Our journey slowly is coming to an end now. Today we will be heading towards Namche Bazaar (3,550 meters). Most of the time we will be descending with a few uphills and downhills sections near the end of the trail.

As we leave Pheriche, the uphill path will last a few moments with a downhill as we pass through Shomare and Pangbouche. Moving further, we come across a suspension bridge, which upon crossing starts an uphill section until we reach Tengboche.

Moreover, walking through the forest descending, and crossing a suspension bridge, we finally reach Namche Bazaar after an uphill. This section can get a bit challenging. Along the way, we get a view of Everest, Nupste, and Lhotse.

We will be accommodating in Namche Bazaar for the night.

On the last day of trekking in this exciting Jiri Everest Base Camp Trek, we descend to the Lukla (2850 meters). Making the most out of this day, we slowly descend until we reach the Dudh Koshi suspension bridge.

Crossing the bridge while truly appreciating the beauty of the nearby lush hills, flowing river stream, and snow-capped mountains in the distance is somewhat picturesque.

The trail now can be a bit rocky and challenging. Moving further, we pass through the rhododendron forest to finally reach Lukla. For the rest of the day, we can explore Lukla and stay in one of the lodges for the night.

Flying back to Kathmandu from Lukla Airport is also quite adventurous. A small-sized airplane with a short runway at such an altitude. Therefore if the weather is clear, we can only get a flight, or we have to stay in our hotel for additional days.

During the takeoff, we will see hills on either side, then slowly depart from Lukla and head towards the capital. We will also see some mountain ranges on our flight. Upon arrival at the capital, we will explore Kathmandu and stay in the hotel for the night.
