Overview

The Kailash Mansarovar Tour is a deeply spiritual journey to one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in the world, located in the remote Tibetan region.

Four main faiths regard the 6,638-meter Mount Kailash as sacred: Buddhism, Jainism, Bon, and Hinduism. Because of its spiritual significance and the belief that it is the home of Lord Shiva in Hinduism, the mountain is highly revered by devotees.

In addition to the mountain, the high-altitude freshwater lake known as Lake Mansarovar has great religious significance. It is said that taking a holy bath in its waters can atone for sins and promote spiritual renewal.

A 52-kilometer trek around Mount Kailash called the "parikrama" or "kora" is usually included in the itinerary. Because of the steep height and rough terrain, this hike is not only physically taxing but also spiritually uplifting because of the breathtaking views of the mountain and the surrounding areas.

This difficult route is taken by pilgrims and trekkers from all over the world who come to enjoy the peaceful and spiritual surroundings as well as to strengthen their faith.

Apart from its spiritual element, the journey offers a chance to discover Tibetan culture by passing through isolated villages in the Himalayas, seeing monasteries, and engaging with local populations.

The enchanted splendor of the surrounding landscape, which includes snow-capped peaks, immaculate valleys, and the azure waters of Lake Mansarovar, accentuates the enchanted charm of this once-over trip.

Best Season for Kailash Mansarovar Trek

The ideal times of year to undertake the overland tour of Kailash Mansarovar are late spring, summer, and early fall; the winter months do require more packing, gear, and equipment preparation.

Because of Tibet's location in the rain shadow region, which rarely experiences rainfall, the weather during the spring and autumn months of March to May and September to November is generally stable with clear visibility, mild temperature, and good trail conditions. The monsoon seasons of Nepal occur from July to August.

Comparably, if you want a flawless cross-cultural encounter, plan your vacation around one of the biggest Tibetan holidays, Saga Dawa, which falls in May or June and honors the life, teachings, and demise of Buddhism's founder, Buddha.

For this reason, when is the best time to do the Overland Kailash Mansarovar Tour? It depends a lot on what you want to see and do.

Good to Know

Accommodations during the Kailash Mansarovar Tour

Tibet is not a destination for opulent travel. Thus, it's challenging to locate upscale lodging in Tibet. However, we have personally selected the safest and coziest places to stay in places like Gyirong and Saga. There are often less opulent lodging options in rural areas like Mansarovar, Darchen, Dirapuk, and Zuthulpuk.

The guest cottages in the area will host you for the nights, furnished with simple beds, pillows, and blankets. You will have to share the accommodation with other passengers because the rooms are provided on a sharing basis.

Meals during the Kailash Mansarovar Trip

Breakfasts are included in our Kailash Mansarovar tour package for each day of the journey. Lunch and supper are not included in the package because everyone has different tastes.

In Kathmandu, Gyirong, and Saga, there are a plethora of restaurants serving Tibetan, Nepali, Western, Continental, Chinese, and other cuisines.

You can enjoy traditional Tibetan food in Mansarovar, Darchen, Dirapuk, and Zuthulpuk, in addition to the staple Daal Bhat (rice and lentil soup with vegetables).

Dishes like butter tea, tsampa, dumplings, noodle soup, basic Chinese, and some Western fare like fries, omelets, pizzas, and spaghetti are also available.

Altitude Sickness during Kailash Mansarovar Trek

Altitude sickness, sometimes referred to as acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a typical worry while traveling to high altitudes over 3,000 meters above sea level. We're traveling to Tibet over the course of 5 days from a far lower altitude of 1,400 meters at Kathmandu, so you're less likely to have altitude sickness.

On the other hand, you must exercise caution to avoid acquiring altitude sickness (AMS) because the Kailash Kora at Drolma La Pass will take you as high as 5,630 meters.

Altitude sickness symptoms include headache, nausea, rapid pulse, trouble breathing, difficulty falling asleep, and more. Please contact your guide immediately if you see any of these symptoms.
